Business Communications Course

This is short course for business professionals and administrators who need to communicate effectively, in both speaking and writing. It is suitable for managers working for commercial and non-profit making organisations

The speaking activities aim to enable students to make short presentations and to take part in meetings and discussions

Writing activities aim to enable students to write short reports (500 words) and letters

The course is for 30 hours (4 weeks). Lessons are for 90 hours a day from Monday to Friday

Course content varies according to the particular needs of students and their language ability.

The speaking course component (15 hours) focuses on:

  • Preparing a and giving presentations to small groups in semi formal settings: openings, transitions, conclusions and delivery – voice, posture and body language;
  • Taking part in discussions: presenting arguments, expressing agreement and disagreement, presenting counter arguments.

The writing component (15 hours) focuses on:

  • Writing short reports: introduction and outlines; discussion and body sections, conclusions and recommendations.
  • Writing formal letters: requests for information, giving information, making enquiries and proposals

Course Methodology

Classroom learning is done through task based activities (pair and group work activities), tasks include case studies for discussion and practice.

Students are given a file at the beginning of the course and all the course materials are given as the course progresses.

Homework tasks are given.
